Description

Strong everyday protection with fast access when you need it

In warehouse and industrial environments, some of the most important assets on a site sit behind a barrier. Electrical distribution boards, LV cabinets, IDF cabinets, water and gas infrastructure and IT equipment all benefit from physical protection against vehicle and pedestrian encroachment. But they also need to be accessible for maintenance, inspection and emergency response without dismantling a full barrier run.

The Demountable Safety Barrier SEG addresses both requirements directly. It provides a strong, stable physical boundary for everyday pedestrian and vehicle separation. When access is needed, two people lift the barrier section from its horseshoe style floor mount and reposition it in seconds. No tools are required and the full barrier run does not need to come down. Access is fast, controlled and reversible.

HDPE and galvanised steel construction

The barrier uses steel boot bases, polymer posts and polymer rail sets. Steel boots fabricate from 100mm x 100mm SHS with 180mm x 180mm x 10mm thick baseplates. All steelwork carries a hot dip galvanised finish to BS EN ISO 1461. The polymer posts and rail sets are high-density polyethylene in black and yellow as standard.

No painted surfaces means no repainting is required. The HDPE components are non-toxic, fully recyclable and perform across ambient, chilled and freezer environments. This makes the system suitable for food production facilities and cold storage as well as standard warehouse and distribution applications. The system is manufactured in the UK.

Modular design and on-site installation

The system uses 4x Rawl M10 x 120mm Safety Plus Anchors per post. All fixings are supplied. Post centres sit at 1160mm high with 1600mm between post centres. The modular components assemble on site without specialist fabrication equipment. Rail sets cut to length using a standard chop-saw, allowing the system to fit any layout quickly and efficiently. This keeps installation time and fitting costs to a minimum.
The horseshoe style floor mount sits permanently fixed to the floor. The barrier section drops in and lifts out as required, providing the demountable function without affecting the stability of the installed system during normal operation.

SEG+ option and accessories

For locations where additional low-level asset protection is also required, the SEG+ adds a low-level Armco rail to the steel boot bases. This protects against forklift tine damage at floor level alongside the standard pedestrian and vehicle separation the system provides.

Pedestrian Sprung Return Gates are also available for high-traffic access points within the barrier run where hands-free, self-closing pedestrian access is needed alongside the demountable sections.

Where the Demountable Safety Barrier SEG is specified

The Demountable Safety Barrier SEG suits any location where a strong physical barrier is required for everyday pedestrian and vehicle separation and where occasional access behind the barrier is an operational requirement. Typical applications include LV and IT cabinet enclosures, electrical distribution board zones, water and gas infrastructure protection, warehouse walkways and picking aisles adjacent to critical services, loading areas and holding zones where periodic access is needed and mezzanine edges or perimeter routes in distribution centres and manufacturing facilities.

Its modular design makes it particularly well suited to complex or irregular site layouts. Where a fixed system would not provide the access flexibility the site requires, this one does.

Supporting compliance and duty of care

Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers must keep pedestrian routes clearly defined and safe from vehicle encroachment. The barrier meets the requirements of BS 6180:2011 and EN 1991-1-1 Eurocode 1 for barrier height. This provides a compliant physical boundary at the standard required for pedestrian protection in industrial environments.

The Demountable Safety Barrier SEG provides a documented physical control measure at the point where pedestrian and vehicle routes meet, with the added benefit of controlled, tool-free access when the site requires it. For H&S managers, facilities teams and specifiers, a demountable barrier system at critical infrastructure zones demonstrates a considered and complete approach to both pedestrian safety and operational access management. The result is clearer routes, fewer near misses and a safer, better organised site.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Demountable Safety Barriers (SEG/SEG+) are modular, temporary barriers designed to control pedestrian and vehicle traffic in industrial, commercial, and public spaces. These barriers can be quickly assembled, disassembled, and repositioned, providing flexible safety solutions where permanent barriers are not feasible.

These barriers create a temporary yet sturdy boundary that protects pedestrians and property from vehicles and other hazards. By clearly defining safe zones and restricting access to dangerous areas, they enhance safety in dynamic environments.

Yes, Demountable Safety Barriers are designed for quick and easy installation. They can be assembled and disassembled without specialised tools, allowing for rapid deployment and relocation as needed.

Absolutely, these barriers are constructed from durable High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), engineered to absorb and deflect impact forces. They are suitable for use in environments with frequent vehicle and equipment movement.

Demountable Safety Barriers are low-maintenance, requiring only periodic inspections to ensure they remain securely assembled and free from significant wear or damage. Their modular design also makes it easy to replace individual components if necessary.

Yes, these barriers are highly customisable. They can be configured in various lengths, heights, and layouts to suit specific safety needs and can be easily adjusted or expanded to fit different spaces.

They are typically made from high-grade steel, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), designed to resist impacts, abrasion, and weather conditions. Many barriers are also coated or treated to prevent corrosion and extend their lifespan.

Yes, these barriers are versatile and can be used in both indoor and outdoor settings. Their weather-resistant construction ensures they perform reliably in various environments, including areas exposed to harsh weather conditions.

By providing flexible, temporary protection, these barriers help maintain a safe work environment without the need for permanent installations. This flexibility allows for efficient reconfiguration of workspaces as needs change, minimising disruptions and enhancing operational efficiency.

Yes, Demountable Safety Barriers can be paired with safety signage, floor markings, and additional modular components to create a comprehensive safety system that meets the specific needs of your facility.
