Description
Protecting doors and mezzanines from MHE impact
Mezzanine floors, rapid rise doors and roller shutters are among the most expensive and vulnerable assets in any warehouse. Loaded pallets and MHE passing through doorways create a constant risk of contact with door frames and structural thresholds. Each unaddressed impact increases the risk of costly structural damage. Operational disruption follows. The Door Protection Goalpost System addresses this directly.
It creates a defined physical threshold at the door opening. This controls the height and width of vehicles and loads passing through, protecting the door, the mezzanine and the surrounding structure from contact before it occurs.
A system built around ImpactSAFE bollard bases
The goalpost system uses two ImpactSAFE bollard bases, one at each side of the opening. Each base incorporates a shock absorbing rubber buffer. The buffer absorbs and arrests impact force before it reaches the floor fixings and the surrounding slab. An 89mm diameter galvanised steel upright rises from each bollard base. It connects across the top via an 89mm diameter crossbar with joining spigot connections, forming the goalpost structure.
The crossbar carries yellow and black LLDPE polymer covers for hazard awareness across the full width of the opening. The uprights and all other steel components carry a hot dip galvanised finish to BS EN ISO 1461. Each upright also carries a 50mm diamond grade reflective band for visibility in low-light conditions.
Made to order for every door size
Every Door Protection Goalpost System is made to order. The width and height follow the specific dimensions of the door opening, the mezzanine threshold or the height restriction required on site. The system accommodates widths and heights of up to 7 metres. This covers the full range of door sizes found in industrial buildings.
Each upright fixes to the floor using 4x M12 x 120mm Safety Plus Anchors per bollard base. All fixings are supplied. A full two-upright system uses 8x M12 x 120mm Safety Plus Anchors in total. To specify the correct configuration, share your door width, height requirement and floor construction details. The Brandsafe team will provide tailored guidance and a personalised quote.
Where the Door Protection Goalpost System is specified
The system suits mezzanine access points, rapid rise door openings and roller shutter entrances where MHE regularly passes through. It also enforces height restrictions for MHE operating under mezzanine floors, preventing vehicles from passing through at unsafe heights. Where a standard fixed barrier would not provide the clearance required, the goalpost system does.
It suits warehouses, distribution centres and manufacturing facilities of all sizes where door and mezzanine protection is the priority.
Supporting compliance and duty of care
Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers are required to maintain safe traffic routes and protect building fabric, assets and people from foreseeable vehicle impacts. Mezzanine floors and door openings where MHE operates represent exactly this kind of foreseeable risk.
The Door Protection Goalpost System provides a physical control measure at the point where vehicle and structure contact is most likely. For facilities managers, H&S managers and specifiers, installing a configured goalpost system at high-risk door openings demonstrates a proactive approach to structural protection and height management. The result is fewer incidents, lower repair costs and a safer, more organised site.
