Description
Low-level protection where space and budget are both a consideration
Not every warehouse location requires a full PAS 13 tested barrier system. In areas where low-level collisions pose a risk to equipment, wall lines, pallet locations and conveyor edges, a lighter, more compact solution is often the practical and cost-effective choice. The SpaceSaver Single Bumper Barrier provides reliable low-level impact protection at 365mm high, targeting the zone most frequently struck by pallet trucks, pump trucks and other MHE. It does this without the footprint or cost of a heavier specification system.
This makes it a strong choice for everyday protection across different site types. Including distribution centres, manufacturing facilities, cold stores and any site where operational movement requires dependable but budget-conscious impact defence.
A lighter specification for lower-risk locations
The SpaceSaver Bumper Barrier uses a reduced tube diameter compared to the Brandsafe PAS 13 tested barrier systems. This produces a lighter, more compact design suited to applications where a full-specification tested system is not required. It provides dependable protection and clear visual guidance without the footprint or cost of a heavy-duty alternative. That makes it the practical choice for lower-risk internal locations.
For locations requiring independently tested impact performance, the Brandsafe PAS 13 tested Polymer Barrier range provides the higher specification alternative.
HDPE and mild steel construction
The barrier uses flexible HDPE rails combined with mild steel uprights. The HDPE rails deflect on impact and absorb force before it transfers into the floor, reducing floor damage and the maintenance costs that follow. The mild steel uprights provide the structural support the system needs to perform reliably under repeated contact. Both materials work together to deliver a barrier that handles everyday operational demands without requiring frequent replacement or maintenance. Low maintenance is built into the design.
Both materials are non-toxic and fully recyclable. The barrier performs across ambient, chilled and freezer environments and suits food production facilities where hygiene and material safety are additional requirements alongside physical protection.
Visibility, sizing and installation
The SpaceSaver Single Bumper Barrier is supplied in Safety Yellow and Grey as standard, providing a clear visual boundary for MHE drivers and warehouse teams at known risk points. Bespoke colours are available on request, subject to minimum order quantities.
The barrier stands at 365mm high with a 200mm x 200mm baseplate. Standard lengths start from 1400mm and are variable to suit the specific layout of the site. Each post uses four Ø14mm fixing holes and fixes using M12 x 100mm throughbolts. Floor preparation requires a Ø12mm drill hole with a minimum embedment of 60mm. All fixings are supplied. Installation is straightforward and keeps operational downtime to a minimum. For barrier runs of 3 metres or more, a centre post is incorporated as standard to maintain structural integrity across the full length.
Where the SpaceSaver Single Bumper Barrier is specified
The barrier suits pedestrian routes, pick faces, packing zones, wall lines and any area where occasional pallet or equipment movement creates a low-level impact risk. Its slim profile reduces obstruction in tight aisles and perimeter routes, making it particularly well suited to sites upgrading older steel systems or introducing low-level protection for the first time.
It works effectively as a standalone section or as part of a wider barrier system. A double bumper version is also available where a higher specification is required at the same location.
Supporting compliance and duty of care
Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers are required to maintain safe working environments and take reasonable steps to protect people, equipment and building fabric from foreseeable vehicle impacts. Low-level impact points at wall lines, pick faces and packing zones represent exactly this kind of foreseeable risk.
The SpaceSaver Single Bumper Barrier provides a practical, cost-effective physical control measure at these locations. For facilities managers and H&S managers, installing barrier protection at known low-level impact points demonstrates a proactive approach to workplace safety and supports the requirement to manage foreseeable risks to a practicable minimum. The result is fewer incidents, lower repair costs and a safer site overall.
