Description

Low-level protection for floor-level infrastructure in high-traffic environments

In busy warehouse and logistics environments, floor-level infrastructure faces constant risk. Pallet movements, pump trucks and MHE manoeuvring in tight spaces all contribute. Equipment lines, racking bases, wall sections and structural assets take repeated low-level contact. That contact accumulates into costly damage over time. The Low-Level Guardrail System provides a strong, rigid physical barrier at exactly the height where this contact occurs most frequently. It stops the damage before it starts.

At 250mm high, the system targets the floor-level zone where pallets, pallet truck forks and low-riding MHE make contact. It does this without obstructing sightlines, operational flow or the movement of goods above the barrier height. That is what makes it the practical choice for environments where space, visibility and protection all need to work together.

Heavy-duty twin rail mild steel construction

The Low-Level Guardrail System uses two 120 x 80mm RHS rails stacked vertically to create a strong, rigid barrier profile. Unlike polymer systems, this metal to metal construction provides the resilience needed in environments where constant movement, tight manoeuvring and repetitive contact are daily realities. The system is manufactured from mild steel and finished in PPC RAL 1023 Yellow as standard.

A ShockSAFE shock absorbing baseplate pad sits beneath each post, absorbing and cushioning impact force before it reaches the floor fixings. This reduces stress on the anchors and the surrounding slab under repeated contact. Closed cell foam gaskets beneath the base rail prevent the accumulation of dirt and debris at floor level. This keeps the installation clean, reduces corrosion risk and supports hygiene in food distribution and clean manufacturing environments. All components supply as a complete kit with everything needed for installation included.

Modular layout flexibility

The system is fully modular. Corner, mid, tee and end posts combine to create tailored layouts that navigate complex routes, machinery placements and pedestrian interfaces across any site. Standard post centres of 1925mm support rapid installation. New sections add or replace with minimal disruption to operations.

The baseplate measures 180mm x 180mm with four Ø18mm fixing holes per post. Floor anchors are 4x M10 x 105mm Safety Plus Anchors and 4x M16 black nylon washers per post. Rails fix using 2x M12 x 30mm button head screws, 2x M12 nylon washers and 2x M12 nuts per top and mid rail. Floor preparation requires a Ø15mm drill hole with a 95mm drill depth and a minimum embedment of 80mm. All fixings are supplied.

De-stacker extension option

For locations requiring protection at greater heights, de-stacker extensions raise the system to approximately 3000mm. This extends the same modular mild steel system from low-level floor protection to full-height vehicle and pedestrian separation in a single consistent barrier range. For bespoke layouts or configurations outside the standard specification, contact the Brandsafe team for tailored guidance.

Where the Low-Level Guardrail System is specified

The system suits any location where floor-level infrastructure needs protection from repeated low-level impacts. Typical applications include equipment lines and pick faces, racking bases and wall sections in warehouse aisles, cold store and freezer environments where polymer barriers may not provide sufficient resilience, conveyor bases and machinery plinths, pedestrian walkway boundaries where pallet or pump truck encroachment creates a trip hazard, and any area where low-level metal to metal protection is required alongside high-visibility route definition.

Its modular design makes it particularly well suited to complex or irregular site layouts where corner, tee and end post configurations are needed to navigate machinery placements and access points without bespoke fabrication.

Supporting compliance and duty of care

Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers must maintain workplace infrastructure in a safe condition and take reasonable steps to prevent foreseeable damage to assets, equipment and people from vehicle and equipment contact. At floor level, unprotected racking bases, wall sections and equipment lines represent exactly this kind of foreseeable and manageable risk.

The Low-Level Guardrail System provides a practical, documented physical control measure at the point where floor-level contact is most likely. For facilities managers, H&S managers and specifiers, installing low-level metal guardrail at high-risk floor zones demonstrates a proactive approach to infrastructure protection and supports the requirement to manage foreseeable risks to a practicable minimum. The result is less structural damage, lower repair costs and a safer, better organised site.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Guardrail Systems for Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and Pedestrian Impact Traffic (PIT) are protective barriers designed to separate and protect areas where vehicles, such as forklifts, and pedestrians operate in close proximity, ensuring safety in industrial and warehouse environments.

These systems create a physical barrier that prevents vehicles from entering pedestrian zones and protects equipment, structures, and people from accidental collisions, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.

Yes, these guardrail systems are designed for straightforward installation, typically bolted into the ground for secure placement. The installation process may vary depending on the specific layout and requirements of the facility.

Absolutely, these systems are built from robust materials engineered to withstand the significant impacts that might occur in industrial environments, providing reliable protection against vehicle collisions.

Guardrail Systems are low-maintenance, requiring only periodic inspections to ensure they remain securely fastened and free from significant damage or wear.

Yes, these systems can be tailored to fit various facility layouts, with options for different lengths, heights, and configurations to ensure optimal protection and adaptability.

They are typically made from high-strength steel or other durable materials designed to resist corrosion, impacts, and wear, ensuring long-lasting performance in demanding environments.
